| | Well this certainly came as a bit of a blow, it seems that Perpetual liquidated it's assets last month. Korean company Gravity Co, seemingly best known for Ragnarok online, is an investor in perpetual and claims in it's SEC filing that the $9M investment in perpetual has gone down the tubes. There is also talk that the new owner will be re-targeting the game toward a more casual market, perhaps with revenues being raised by purchase of in game items rather than monthly subscription fees. This does not bode well my friends, coupled with the canceling of God's and Heroes it seems STO is on very shaky ground indeed. Also you would have hope that there'd be an official announcement, but we have nothing at this time. "Hello Worf, eat any good books lately?" Signup for your forum account here. | ||

| | Well this strikes me as decidedly pants, I can't say I know how well selling of in-game items works for MMO's, but I can't help thinking a subscriber model would be infinitely more suited. If not only for constant post release development. Damn it I want that gamma quadrant expansion! Of course the game may never actually make it to release. News like this and the God's and Heroes worry, added to the fact we've had precious little seen of the game through anemic DevLogs, has set my phasers to worry. | The dude | Cool, we got a reply from executive producer Daron Stinnett: You guys are very charitable - thanks for the support. And I mean that. There are some really nasty and incorrect rumors circulating right now and while the support is obviously not unanimous, I was expecting much more piling-on in this thread than is the case. I personally think that MMOs need to be a better deal. Paying $200/year is a good deal for some but I don't think that is sustainable for the category and certainly rules out a lot of people who don't have the time to get enough value out of that expense. So we are discussing this issue internally. Unfortunately that discussion leaked and the characterization is incorrect. It's also unfortunate that we have not yet come to conclusion internally so it is hard to present the real story since we are in the process of figuring it out. But I do want to reassure everyone that STO is still going, it is still a triple-A game, and we are thinking hard about how to make our efforts even more appealing with a lower barrier to entry than is the norm.
